FROM COMMEDIA to COMEDY

COURSE STRUCTURE

● Archetypes and Social Types

We will explore the use of archetypes, more specifically the archetypes or fixed types of Commedia dell’Arte, in classic comedies. We will work on their physicality, vocal characteristics, status and relationship with one another. We will work on selected texts by Shakespeare, Molière and Goldoni.

● Rhythm

An introduction to the wonderful and rich variety of sonorities and rhythms in the work of Shakespeare and Molière (verse) and Goldoni (prose).

● Physicalising the Text​

Transforming words into images and actions. Explore how to develop dynamic and playful scenes through the development of physical scores in response to the text. Taking risks allowing the words (their meaning, sound, rhythm, colours) and imagery within the text to inspire your physical and vocal work. Build choral work and ensemble scenes.
