PHYSICAL THEATRE
COURSE STRUCTURE
● Animal Work
A playful exploration of how animals can help us to expand our physical vocabulary. We can learn a lot from them. Animal work is a wonderful tool for creating a physical life different from our own and develop a character. We will explore animal exercises develop by a range of influential practitioners including Stanislavski, Strasberg, Lecoq and Grotowski.
● Awareness
A physical work that will focus on spacial awareness and how actors work together in relation to one another and the space. Inspired by Grotowski’s teaching, this physical exploration will enable us to connect with our instinctive responses. We will discover a deeper physical understanding of mind, body and space in performance contexts, to expand our awareness, presence and availability on stage.
● Mutuality & Trust
An exploration of trust, availability and awareness through a series of exercises inspired the notion of ‘mutuality’. These series of exercises are inspired by Chiara’s work with Ali Hodge on the ‘core training’, a new methodology of actor’s training. This work encourages a profound awareness of inter-relationships experienced through the body with other actors, the audience and the space. The key themes that guide the work are: ground and weight; breathing and breath; working with things; working with others.
