Discover your comedic potential and create bold characters in a dynamic weekend workshop led by Dr Chiara D'Anna.


Workshop content:

  • Character work: Learn how to embody bigger-than-life and grotesque characters.
  • Physical Presence: Master movement, rhythm, and status to create compelling, hilarious scenes.
  • Spontaneity & Confidence: Embrace improvisation and perform fearlessly.
  • Comic Timing: Develop your rhythm and audience interaction skills for maximum comedic effect.
  • Creative Inspiration: Take inspiration from everyday life to reinvent traditional archetypes with fresh, contemporary flair.


Workshop Structure:

  • Friday 20 June 2025 (16:30–20:00): Build original, grotesque characters through engaging ensemble exercises.
  • Saturday 21 June 2025 (10:00–17:00): Develop and improvise comic scenes inspired by your personal stories and current events.
  • Sunday 22 June 2025 (10:00–17:00): Refine your character work with Commedia archetypes and mask techniques, inspired by Chiara's acclaimed show, DON'T YOU DARE!

🎭 Commedia dell'Arte Intensive - Three Days Workshop 🎭

Deepen your knowledge of the fundamental elements of Commedia dell'Arte with Dr Chiara D'Anna. Learn Commedia stage principles, themes and techniques which still plays a central role in contemporary theatre practices today.



Workshop content:

  • Body-voice training
  • Rhythm & Timing
  • Principles of movement theory and physical storytelling in space.
  • Character development of selected characters of the Commedia and use of masks.
  • Development and experimentation with "Grammelot”
  • Interaction with the audience.
  • Development of short scenes and mini-canovacci (scenarios of Commedia dell'Arte)


Workshop Structure:

  • Friday 13 June 2025 (16:30–20:00): Physical and vocal training to expand performers' vocabulary. Physical storytelling techniques.
  • Saturday 14 June 2025 (11:00–18:00): Explore specific Commedia dell'arte archetypes and how they interacts. Exploration with "grammelot".
  • Sunday 15 June 2025 (11:00–18:00): Practice working as part of a group to create dynamic, collaborative scenes. Explore audience interaction and improvisation. Devise short, comic scenes inspired by traditional Commedia dell’Arte scenarios (i.e. canovacci)
