Based on an eerie and unsettling short story by Persian writer Sadegh Hedayat, THE RED ROOM is portable opera for three voices. A chance encounter at night between a stranded traveller and a mysterious host, in a provincial town in pre-war Iran turns into a night of disturbing revelations leading to the unmasking of the secret of the Red Room. With a narrative that has echoes of Franz Kafka and Edgar Allan Poe, THE RED ROOM is an intense and disturbing drama about fear, isolation, and philosophical self-destruction.
